Ingredients

Apples
  • 3 large apples Peeled, cored, and sliced into wedges.
Cinnamon sugar coating
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter Melted.
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1.5 tsp cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp nutmeg
  • 0.25 tsp vanilla extract
Serving
  • 1 vanilla ice cream For serving.
  • 1 caramel sauce For serving.

Equipment

  • 1 Air fryer

Method

Coat the apples
  1. Toss apple wedges with melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract until evenly coated. Make sure every wedge looks lightly glazed with no dry spice patches.
Air-fry
  1. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F. You should see it come to temperature before arranging the apples.
  2. Arrange the apple wedges in a single layer in the basket. Leave space between wedges so the edges can caramelize.
  3. Air-fry for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through. Cook until caramelized and tender, with browned edges.
  4. Work in batches if needed. Keep the coated apples from overcrowding so the caramelization stays even.
Serve
  1. Serve the apples warm over vanilla ice cream with a drizzle of caramel sauce. Let the heat soften the ice cream slightly before eating.

Notes

Pro tip: keep apple pieces in roughly the same wedge thickness so they finish at the same time. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat in the air fryer at 325°F for 3-4 minutes. Freezing isn’t recommended because the apples can turn watery after thawing. For a lighter option, use butter alternatives and choose a lower-sugar caramel sauce, keeping the spice mix the same.
