Ingredients

American flag fruit platter base ingredients
  • 2 cup fresh blueberries For the blueberry canton (star field) in the upper left corner.
  • 2 lb fresh strawberries Hulled and halved lengthwise; cut-side down for the red stripes.
  • 3 medium bananas Sliced into rounds for the white stripes.
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice Brush on banana slices to prevent browning.

Equipment

  • 1 sheet pan

Method

Assemble the flag
  1. Choose a large rectangular serving tray or cutting board and set it on a flat, stable surface so the rows stay straight.
  2. In the upper left corner, arrange a dense rectangle of blueberries to form the canton (star field) with minimal gaps between berries.
  3. Starting from the top right of the tray and working left from the blueberry section, lay rows of halved strawberries cut-side down to form the red stripes.
  4. Brush the banana slices with lemon juice to prevent browning, then arrange them in rows between the strawberry stripes to create the white stripes.
  5. Continue alternating strawberry and banana rows across the full length of the tray, keeping each row tight and aligned for a clean flag shape.
Serve
  1. Serve immediately, or refrigerate uncovered for up to 1 hour before serving to keep the fruit crisp and bright.

Notes

Pro tip: Keep strawberry halves cut-side down and press each row gently into place so the red and white stripes look crisp from overhead. Refrigerate uncovered up to 1 hour; freezing isn’t recommended for fruit platters. For a lower-sugar option, you can slightly reduce visual contrast by using half blueberries and half raspberries in the canton (same layout) while keeping the strawberry-and-banana stripe pattern.
